The importance of giving blood

I’m transfusion dependent. Without the blood of others, I’d be in bad shape. Its been that way for nearly eight weeks. Sorry to say I have never given blood, never given platelets. Not once. Something I read today…every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood. 5% of the eligible US population donates blood in any given year.
I’ve received at least 30 transfusions over the past two months, at best that means I’m 30 in the red, batting -30; however you want to put it, it’s not good.
So for now, I’ll do what I’m good at, being dependent on you to pick up my slack. Give blood, because my -30 is dragging down the whole system and two seconds is really often.
For the next and nearest opportunity to donate, go here to the American Red Cross web site and type in your zip code.

Matt, Yes we all should take the time and GO! This family is typed as two A pos (Myself and 21 year old daughter) Two AB pos (25 year old daughter and 18 year old son) And husband B neg. New son in law thinks he is an o pos? We will get a few bags of platlets to you at the very least. Maybe even blood if Matt (Son- in law ) is an o pos. In general we should all be more conscientious. It takes such little effort to do so much.
