more blood; more thanks

Last Thursday was a long day. Left for the clinic at 8 a.m, returned  at 7p.m.  Received three transfusions, bringing the total to 17 in the last 24 days. My apologies for the lack of updates all weekend—I was out celebrating with my newly acquired blood.
Heading back to the Clinic tomorrow at 9am. Thanks to all, past, present [...]

Good news no blood transfusions needed…

Good news, no transfusions today. Walked into the clinic at 9am, out by 11am. If you know anything about a doctor’s visit thats quick. Real quick. My doc says the horse serum is circulating through my body and apparently my body detests it, but with the meds I’m taking severe discomfort has been averted thus far.

Out of the hospital and happy about it…

I’m home.

ATG/horse serum completed, moving onto the next chapter. The doctors tell me we’ll have a good idea if the immunosupressive treatment is working in 120 days from first day of treatment, Tuesday, July 14.
Fours days down 116 to go…
Take home message from five days in a hospital: Confinement sucks, never stop appreciating the simple [...]

Thanks to all

Just finished up a third round of ATG treatment at 8 a.m., no reactions, one more to go…

My brother is not a match

Just returned from the clinic, found out my brother is not a match. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disapointed, but in a weird way it’s a relief to know, one way or the other. I am moving ahead with another treatment plan, scheduled to start next week.
Today was jammed packed with insurance [...]

NJ Herald feature

Today, the New Jersey Herald, my hometown paper, ran a story on me.  Here it is.
This afternoon I am scheduled to consult the transplant doctor for the first time, I should know if my brother is a match within the next few days. The goal for today is to avoid a blood transfusion, with every transfusion comes the [...]
